INNOVATIONS IN CARE: The Mockingbird Family™ Model
MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ is an empowerment-based approach to delivering foster care that reflects how communities have cared for children for generations – as an extended family. MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ works like a wheel, with connecting parts. At the center are experienced “hub home” providers who support 6-to-10 “satellite” foster families to form a “constellation.” Hub homes provide respite care, organize monthly gatherings for families, and become the “go-to” haven of support for foster parents and youth.
Join us in learning about this innovation in care. Attendees will learn about:
- MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ structure and how it works
- The research evidence behind MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™
- Hear from peer partners, international and local, who have implemented MBF and learn what it takes to implement.
Originally launched in Washington state in 2004, MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ has been demonstrated by research to achieve successful outcomes in retaining foster parents and stabilizing placements. The model has now been implemented (and is growing) in California, New York, Washington, Canada, Australia, Japan and the U.K. And is set to launch constellations in New Zealand in 2020.
