Supporting Children with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities
Supporting Foster Youth with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
In 2018, more than 180,000 youth with I/DD were served by California’s Developmental Disability System. Many myths and misconceptions remain regarding youth with I/DD. For example, it is not always obvious when a child has a disability. Many people, even professionals, believe that youth with I/DD cannot benefit from therapy or develop psychiatric disorders. However, children and youth with I/DD can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Haleigh Scott, PhD., is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been dedicated to working with disabled children and adults for more than ten years. Dr. Scott is continuing the series of regionally based trainings that will provide accurate information about youth with I/DD, highlight important considerations unique to this population, help professionals develop necessary skills, and provide resources for anyone connected to foster youth with I/DD.
The trainings are for designed for staff who work in education, developmental services, behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile probation, and all agencies that collaborate as part of a county child and youth system of care. The training dates listed below are intended for audiences in the Central Region of California. To attend the training in your area, visit the I/DD webpage for dates and locations. Be sure to stay tuned to CCR Communications for the latest registration information.
