Capacity Building Webinar

The Catalyst Center is excited to share this capacity building opportunity for our members. Providers are often challenged with balancing privacy with safety in the context of care for children and youth, particularly in residential settings. Now with youth sheltering-in-place and the transition into telehealth, youth internet access, use, and risk are on the rise. Thanks to COVID-19,millions of youth are e-connecting via apps like Zoom, which potentially exposes them to new forms of child abuse.

This webinar will illustrate the current technology and applications teens are using to access the Internet, and in what ways some of the most popular social media apps are not safe for children and youth. Cyberbullying and other online threats will be discussed using real-world examples. The webinar will be presented by Clayton Cranford, one of the nation’s leading law enforcement educators on social media and child safety and a Sergeant in Southern California. Attendees will be able to walk away with a sample action plan that will help keep children and students safe online.

Participants will gain information about:

· Current apps youth are using and what you need to know about them

· "Sexting"and how to identify online predatory behavior

· How to talk to caregivers and youth about online safety
